Cordillera - Igorot Mixed Martial Artist Danny Kingad has officially made its way to the final of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix.
Kingad, the only member of Team Lakay pulled out a win against Reece "Lightning" Mclaren via split decision last Friday in the Mall of Asia Arena during ONE: DAWN OF HEROES event.
The Igorot fighter survived Mclaren's rear-naked choke early in the first round and managed to score a favorable winning decision in the last round when he landed multiple takedowns and solid ground and pound to Mclaren.
With an improve record of 13-1 in his career, Kingad is set to meet American MMA fighter Demitrius "Mighty" Johnson in the final of the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix.
Johnson defeated Japanese foe Tatsumisu Wada via unanimous decision to fill the bracket for the upcoming Grand Prix Final set for October in Tokyo Japan this year.
Meanwhile, Kingad's teammates Edward Kelly, Honorio Banario, Eduard Folayang and Geje Eustaquio didn't make it last Friday as they suffered defeats from Foreign foes.

Training out of Team Lakay in La Trinidad, Benguet, Philippines, Danny "The King" Kingad, 23, was one of the winners at "ONE: Dawn of Heroes." It was the ninth victory of the Filipino mixed martial artist in ONE Championship.
Featuring 13 mixed martial arts matches and two Muay Thai matches, "ONE: Dawn of Heroes" took place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines. In the 10th bout of the evening, Kingad faced Reece "Lightning" Mclaren, 27, of Australia.
Yoshinori Umeki served as the referee. After three five-minute rounds, the bout was left in the hands of the judges.
In the end, Umeki raised the hand of Kingad, who was declared the winner via split decision. It was the Philipines first win that evening.
Including the Philippines and Australia, 14 countries were represented at "ONE: Dawn of Heroes." The other countries were Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.
Kingad was one of the five hometown heroes on the card. McLaren was one of the two representatives of Australia.

Danny "The King" Kingad will face the greatest challenge of his career at ONE: CENTURY PART I, but he believes he can upset the most dominant mixed martial arts World Champion of all time.
On Sunday, 13 October in Tokyo, Japan, the Filipino superstar will take on Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Final
As most fans expected, the American icon made his way through the bracket with two wins, but the Team Lakay representative has arguably looked more impressive with a pair of energetic performances in show-stealing match-ups.
Kingad had to go the distance with Senzo Ikeda and Reece McLaren, but he showed the skillful striking, tenacious grappling, and ability to push the pace that could see him triumph at the biggest event in martial arts history.
Ahead of his encounter at the Ryogoku Kokugikan, "The King" revealed his emotions about the biggest bout of his career, and how he plans to get his hand raised.

The Igorot mixed martial artist was originally set to face former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat "The Kazakh" Akhmetov, 31, of Taldykorgan, Almaty Kazakhstan.
Akhmetov who had to withdraw from the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix semi-finals due to injury. He was replaced by McLaren, who was originally set to fight Yuya "Little Piranha" Wakamatsu, 24, Kagoshima, Japan at "ONE: Dawn of Heroes."
On March 31, 2019, Akhtemov defeated McLaren in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix quarter-finals at "ONE: A New Era" at Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. In another quarter-final bout in the tournament on the same fight card, Kingad defeated Senzo Ikeda, 36, of Tokyo.
Originally from Sadanga, Mountain Province, Philippines, Kingad went to school in Baguio City. He began training in wushu at Team Lakay in 2012 and went on to win gold medals in several local tournaments.
Inspired by the success of esteemed Team Lakay fighter as former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard "Landslide" Folayang, 34, Kingad then turned his attention to the cage. In 2014, Kingad made a successful start to his professional career, debuting with ONE Championship on the way to an impressive record of 8 wins and 0 loss.
This earned Kingad a shot at the ONE Flyweight World Championship against Adriano "Mikinho" Moraes, 31, of Brasilia, Federal District, Brazil. However, the Team Lakay fighter failed in his first bid at world title glory.
Currently, Kingad has 10 wins and 1 loss. On the other hand, McLaren has 12 wins and 6 losses.
A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, McLaren claimed the Eternal MMA and XFL Bantamweight Championships before making his ONE Championship debut. In 2016, he challenged ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano "The Flash" Fernandes, 39, of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil but lost via split decision.

Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje "Gravity" Eustaquio, 30, of the Philippines is one of the Team Lakay warriors set to compete at "ONE: Dawn of Heroes." He will face Yuya "Little Piranha" Wakamatsu, 24, of Japan.
Taking place at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila, Philippines on August 2, 2019, "ONE: Dawn of Heroes" will feature kickboxing, Muay Thai and mixed martial arts matches. Eustaquio and Wakamatsu will compete in a ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix alternate bout.
Originally, Wakamatsu was set to face Reece "Lightning" McLaren, 27, of Australia at "ONE: Dawn of Heroes." However, the Australian fighter, who is of Filipino descent, replaced former ONE Flyweight World Champion Kairat "The Kazakh" Akhmetov, 31, of Kazakhstan as the opponent of Danny "The King" Kingad, 23, of the Philippines the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix semi-finals on the same card.
Akhtemov had to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. In the quarter-finalds, he defeated McLaren at "ONE: A New Era" on March 31, 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.
Also at at "ONE: A New Era," Kingad defeated Senzo Ikeda, 36, of Tokyo in another quarter-final bout. Like Eustaquio, Kingad is training out of Team Lakay in Baguio City, Philippines.
Eustaquio is one of the top flyweights in ONE Championship who has faced the creme of the crop in the division. In his most recent outing, he outpointed promotional debutante Kyu Sung Kim, 26, of South Korea to win by unanimous decision.
Currently, Eustaquio holds a professional record of 12 wins and 7 losses. On the other hand, Wakamatsu has 10 wins and 4 losses.
Wakamatsu is an aggressive knockout artist with shocking power with nine of his 10 victories coming by way of knockout. He is a force to be reckoned with at flyweight.
"ONE: Dawn of Heroes" gives Wakamatsu a chance to earn his first ONE Championship victory. When he made his promotional debut on September 22, 2018 at "ONE: Conquest of Heroes" in Jakarta, Indonesia, he lost to Kingad.

Danny Kingad of Team Lakay is one fight away from winning the One Championship Flyweight World Grand Prix. He came away with the victory over Reece McLaren of Australia in a hard-fought encounter at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Friday night. The bout with McLaren was a semifinal bout in the tournament.
Kingad will be facing the winner in the other semifinal bout between Demetrious Johnson and Tatsumitsu Wada. Kingad advanced to the semifinals with a win over Andrew Leone. For his part, Johnson advanced to the semifinal with a win over Yuya Wakamatsu.
With the victory over McLaren, Kingad extends his winning streak to 6. He only lost once in his professional career. He was submitted in 2017 by Adriano Moraes, the reigning One Championship flyweight titleholder.
