MARAWI VETERAN, FLIGHT SURGEON, COVID 19 WARRIOR and SOLDIER... Rest in Peace, MAJOR ALDRIN C. SUKIL-AP, Medical Corps, Philippine Air Force.
Medical frontliner Dr. Sukil-ap, only 42 years old, from Benguet, succumbed Tuesday, September 22, after a hard battle against COVID-19. He could be the first COVID casualty in the AFP's Medical Corps.
He was also a Marawi hero and had been deployed may times in Jolo as flight surgeon, ensuring that the wounded and sick were properly transported to a definitive treatment facility.
His colleagues describe him as a "most sought after" medical officer "because hindi siya tumatangging tumingin ng pasyente anytime of the day" and "is well loved by young and old patients alike because he was a kindhearted medical officer." He was also described as very health conscious.
His last assignment was at Headquarters, PAF in Pasay City, although he still accommodated patients at the Air Force General Hospital as an Internal Medicine specialist.
Major Sukil-ap's remains lie in state at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and loved ones, especially to his wife, Major Sheila Pineda Sukil-ap, also from the Medical Corps.

AM I QUALIFIED? Joel Junsay asks as he tries to process his papers to qualify for the PHP100,000 the national government could give to medical health care workers who recovered from the coronavirus disease (Covdi-19).
Junsay was also the first Baguio case to come out in the open to facilitate contact tracing.
The Department of Health in the Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR) on Tuesday said only one of the 20 medical health care front line workers who was afflicted with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is eligible to the PHP100,000 financial assistance of the government.
"There is only one who qualifies. When I called the infectious disease center at the BGH (Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center), mild cases sila (they have mild cases)," said Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, DOH-CAR regional director in a press conference.
She said the beneficiary was already able to get the PHP100,000 last Saturday.
The beneficiary, who has a heart problem was classified as a "critical case" because his illnesses were aggravated while he was suffering from Covid-19, which made the person eligible for the assistance of the government.
"This is a continuing benefit," Pangilinan said.

Bishop Victor Bendico of the Diocese of Baguio on Saturday assailed the cutting of 53 pine trees and one Norfolk fir by a real estate developer, which also caused an uproar among officials and city residents.
The property developer on June 20 began clearing the trees on the heavily forested hills of Barangay Outlook Drive for a 12-story residential condominium.
Bendico said the diocese "strongly opposes and considers as unacceptable the continuing mass killing of full grown and healthy trees."
He said in a statement that the developer's move "gravely rejects the moral principle of the social doctrine of the Church on safeguarding the environment."
