Back when ONE Championship first opened the doors to showcase mixed martial arts bouts, Honorio Banario was there.

Now, as the premier promotion in Asia sets out for its 100th card, the former ONE Featherweight World Champion is honored to once again be scheduled to perform.

Banario will take on Shinya Aoki at ONE: Century Part II on Sunday, October 13 from the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. The lightweight contest will be on Part 2 of the doubleheader that features multiple World Title bouts and Grand Prix finals.

Nicknamed "The Rock," Banario first stepped inside the ONE Circle in 2012 at ONE: Battle of Heroes from Jakarta, Indonesia. He lost via submission to Bae Young Kwon that evening in the co-main event but has since won eight contests under the ONE banner.

"This event is very special for me," Banario said. "Since day one, I am already competing in ONE and now it is their 100th event, so I am honored to be part of it."

That includes a five-bout win streak from 2016-2018 highlighted by finishes via strikes or submission against Jaroslav Jartim and Rajinder Singh Meena. Banario won the ONE Featherweight World Championship in 2013 with a fourth-round technical knockout of Eric Kelly at ONE: Return of Warriors.

Over his career, Banario has tested himself with the best of the best, taking on Lowen Tynanes, Amir Khan, Ev Ting, Herbert Burns, Koji Oishi, and Narantungalag Jadambaa. Aoki, though, could be his toughest opponent to date. Banario's reputation and resume earned him a spot earlier this year in the ONE Lightweight World Grand Prix.

"Our preparation on this coming match with one of the MMA legends is very hard," Banario said. "I think it is the hardest training I ever done in my career. Training with my team, Team Lakay, is doing really good and we have a real good game plan."

While Aoki does not carry the ONE Lightweight World Championship with him at the moment, Banario still views this as a championship-level task. Aoki is, after all, a two-time lightweight titlist with ONE.

"Winning this fight is like winning a belt in my point of view," he said. "I think a win over legend Aoki will be my break to challenge the champion."

Do you think Honorio Banario can upset Shinya Aoki at ONE: Century this October?

Medical frontliner Dr. Sukil-ap, only 42 years old, from Benguet, succumbed Tuesday, September 22, after a hard battle against COVID-19. He could be the first COVID casualty in the AFP's Medical Corps.

He was also a Marawi hero and had been deployed may times in Jolo as flight surgeon, ensuring that the wounded and sick were properly transported to a definitive treatment facility.

His colleagues describe him as a "most sought after" medical officer "because hindi siya tumatangging tumingin ng pasyente anytime of the day" and "is well loved by young and old patients alike because he was a kindhearted medical officer." He was also described as very health conscious.

His last assignment was at Headquarters, PAF in Pasay City, although he still accommodated patients at the Air Force General Hospital as an Internal Medicine specialist.

Baliling: The Amazing Architectural Gardening of the Mountain Province

"Baliling" or "Binaliling" is a farming technique which is still being practiced by the indigenous peoples of Bayyo, Bontoc in Mountain Province.

Baliling is done by overturning the soil and creating beds after the rice cropping cycle.

The rows are usually planted with legumes or sweet potatoes. This improves soil fertility and aeration. The gutters in between were then filled with water, an efficient irrigation system. Creating artistic patterns in the fields bringing a joyful aura in the field for the farmers, and all entities that inhabit the field.

This includes ancestral and nature spirits who are believed to be also sharing space and participate in bringing about abundant harvest and balances ecosystems.

How is autonomy different from federalism?

Autonomy is the establishment of a regional government for people living in areas who share a distinct culture, history, heritage and socio-economic conditions. Federalism is a political system in which several states or regions are grouped together to form due to geographic location.
While there exists some measures of self-government, the different state governments shall be under a federal government that would exercise power over them.

As we celebrate the 33rd founding anniversary of the Cordillera this month of July, let's know more about the regions's history and aspirations toward a #OneResilientCordillera!

What is "UBBU" in Ifugao?

In the central part of Ifugao where I was born and raised, I have witnessed a lot of times what they call "ubbu".

It is a term used to describe a traditional Ifugao practice, where a person calls the help of other folks to be part of a work (usually in their ricefields). In return, the person who called for help must repay it with work, commensurate to the number of days the person worked for him/her.

They don't use money to pay workers, but they use work to barter for work.

When these folks gather to work, it's a time for a good fellowship, and in the olden times, it is used to learn their traditional hymn of "Hudhud" for the ladies.

It is still very much alive in my native barangay. But in many parts of Ifugao, "ubbu or ub-ubbu" is becoming strange; just a part of our rich history.

What can the new generation of the "real sons and daughters of Ifugao" do?
