3 high school students have emerged winners in the recently concluded 8th ASEAN Quiz - National Level Competition held in Quezon city from April 3 to 6. They will represent the country in the 8th ASEAN Quiz bee to be held in Bali, Indonesia in the last quarter of the year.

Amongst them was Jericho Villarico, a grade 10 student of Baguio City National High School who was declared the overall champion.

On a report by the Philippine News Agency, Villarico stated that he felt compelled because after the result, the three of them will bring the flag of the Philippines when they will go to Indonesia for this year's 8th ASEAN Quiz Bee.

"I feel more pressured because we have to carry the flag of the Philippines in the regional competition in Indonesia, because the Philippines has been consistently winning, " Villarico stated.

Villarico and his group will continue reviewing individually with their respective coaches in preparation for the competition in Indonesia. However, they will review as a team under one coach, who will be chosen by the People’s Television Network, a week before they leave for Bali for the quiz bee.

The ASEAN Quiz National Level Competition is a biennial contest held within the country which aimed to accumulate the brightest students national to prepare them to compete in the regional stage against students from the 10 ASEAN member countries. It aims to foster the spirit of healthful competition amongst ASEAN youth in a friendly quiz that exposes them to ASEAN cultural, political, economic and social information.

Student-participants will also get a chance to immerse themselves in the tradition of the host-country in a special day tour attached to the occasion.
