32 more police trainees get virus

Oct. 3, 2020 - Thirty-two more police trainees tested positive for the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) boosting today's total number of cases to 65.

Mayor Benjie Magalong said the trainees along with the others detected earlier had been staying in their barracks in Lower Lourdes Subd. and had been quarantined since the first case surfaced last Sept. 22.

At present, a total of124 police officers and trainees had been infected out of the 240 tested from the cluster.

Of the 65 new cases, 60 were contacts of current cases, four were target tested, one was symptomatic and one tested for travel purposes.

There were 22 recoveries and two fatalities raising the death toll to 16.

The first fatality was a 34-year old female who was admitted on Sept. 30 and confirmed COVID-positive on Oct. 1, and died on the same day. She had multiple illnesses including heart disease, hypothyroidism and obstructive sleep apnea

The second was a 68-year old female admitted for cough Sept. 21, confirmed positive on Sept. 22 and expired on Oct. 2. She had hypertension and diabetes.
