Human jawbone as trophies and gong handles-Bontoc, Mountain Province, Philippines April 8, 2010-tribal folk of the Kankana-ey (ethno-linguistic group of the Cordilleras) tribes of Sadanga in Mountain Province perform a traditional cultural dance during the 6th year celebration of Mountain Province's Lang-ay (festivities of sharing) festival, As human jaw bones adorn their brass gongs considered as war trophies during encounters with invading foreigners from the Spanish, American and Japanese world war 2 period.

Human Jaw bones are also considered trophies during tribal wars with neighboring tribes.

Tribal conflicts still sporadically erupt among the Mountain Province tribe and neighboring Kalinga province tribes. These gongs are only allowed by tribal elders to be used during special occasions such as weddings and festivities of the rich clans of Sadanga.

The occasion was also a celebration of a rain dance (sukaida) by the Sadanga tribal group as the province is hard hit by massive drought brought about by the Elo Nino weather phenomenon.

The capital town of Bontoc was drenched by rains during the evening on the same day.
