In a distressing turn of events, a 42-year-old fire officer from Rizal, Kalinga, lost his life in Benguet, Philippines. The incident unfolded after a wedding celebration on November 25, leaving the community mourning the loss of Senior Fire Officer 2 Melvin Madio.

The Discovery: A Life Cut Short

On Saturday evening, Madio's brother found him dead at home. A neighbor reported seeing the suspect in the victim's garden with Madio's sling bag, which supposedly held his gun, phone, and motorcycle keys. This raised questions about the motive behind the shooting.

Seeking Justice: Capture and Evidence

A joint force of Benguet police and the Police Regional Office - Cordillera quickly launched a manhunt. They caught the suspect, Lron Jude Damaso, with a cal.45 pistol, three bullets, and two magazines. The recovered items add complexity to the ongoing investigation.

Damaso now faces murder charges and is held at La Trinidad District Jail awaiting trial. The legal proceedings will determine the consequences of this tragic act that has left a community in grief.

Mourning a Hero: Funeral Plans

Madio's remains are at #43 Purok 5 Gumangan Road, Ambiong, Baguio City. The family plans to transport him to Calaocan, Rizal, Kalinga, for burial on Monday.

Community Grief: Flags Lowered

In Kabayan, where Madio served as Shift-In-Charge of the Bureau of Fire Department, the Philippine flag flies at half-mast. This reflects the local community's shared grief and honors the service of a dedicated firefighter.

Condolences From the Firefighting Community

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) - Cordillera extends condolences, stating, "The whole BFP Cordillera family extends our sincerest condolences to his family and loved ones... May the Lord give you comfort and peace in your sorrow."

As the legal process unfolds, and the community copes with grief, Senior Fire Officer 2 Melvin Madio's memory stands as a reminder of the risks faced by those dedicated to public service.
