Ongoing Search and Rescue Operation in Kadchog River, Bontoc Ili, Bontoc Mountain Province due to a reported drowning incident

Bontoc, Mountain Province - Search and rescue operations continue along the Chico River due to a reported drowning incident that occurred at 10:00 A.M. of November 22, 2020, in Kadchog River, Bontoc Ili, Bontoc Mountain Province.

According to reports from the Bontoc Emergency Operations Center, the victim was Kyneihner Waggay Sawi, 11, a resident of Chakchakan, Bontoc Ili, Bontoc, Mountain Province, and a Bontoc Central School student. He will be 12 years old on December 18, 2020.

According to the interview of the authorities with Gretchen Fakat, whose house overlooks the Kadchog River, she heard the shouts of two kids urging her to go to the site to assess.

She said that according to the two youngsters identified as Harley and Rjay, 13 years old and 10 years old, respectively, and both residents of Chakchakan, Bontoc Ili, the three children were swimming when the victim was suddenly swept away by a strong current.

Gretchen Fakat immediately called for help.

Incident site

Respondents to the scene were personnel from the Bontoc Municipal Police, Bontoc Municipal Fire Station, members of the Bontoc Emergency Response Team, Municipal Health Office headed by Municipal Health Officer Dr. Diga Kay D. Gomez, Mountain Province Police Mobile Force, Provincial Security Guards, and community volunteers.

Family and rescuers

  • At 5:00 P.M., the Waggay Family from Masla, Tadian arrived at the scene of the incident to assist in search and rescue operations.

  • At 5:22 P.M., the JBA Construction backhoe was borrowed to divert the Kadchog River waterway.

Meanwhile, food donations for all responders continue to pour. As of this writing, the following individuals have donated:

  • Ms. Gretchen Fakat
  • Police Officer Rommel Chaokas
  • Lanao Young Mother's Association
  • Purok Chakchakan and Lanao
  • Wangwang and Tudlong Families
  • Ms. Fely Sawi
  • Ms. Kopesa Lao-ed
