Cordilleran Hero, Ginawaran Ng "Distinguised Conduct Star"

Isang junior officer ng Philippine Army's Special Forces na taga-Cordillera ang tumanggap ng pangalawang pinakamataas na military award medal for combat para sa isang rescue misyon upang iligtas ang isang British na lalaki at ang kanyang asawa mula sa kanilang mga captors sa Sulu.

Iginawad ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Distinguished Conduct Star kay Capt. Rico Tagure sa ika-84 na pagdiriwang ng Armed Forces of the Philippines sa Camp Aguinaldo nitong Martes, Disyembre 17.

Si Tagure, ang kumander ng kumpanya ng 4th Special Forces Company ng 2nd Special Forces Battalion, ay kinilala sa kanyang "conspicuous courage and gallantry in action in the face of armed enemies" sa matagumpay na pagligtas sa isang British na si Alan Hyrons at ang kanyang asawang Pilipino na si Wilma, noong Nobyembre.

Si Tagure ay isa sa mga tatanggap ng 14 na parangal na ibinigay sa anibersaryo ng AFP.

Iniligtas ng militar ang na-kidnap na mag-asawang Hyrons noong nakaraang Nobyembre 25 mula sa Abu Sayyaf sa Sulu. Dinakip ang mag-asawa sa kanilang beach resort sa Zamboanga del Sur noong Oktubre 4.

Ayon sa mga ulat, ang mga British Special Forces at mga intelligence officers ay may papel din sa pagpaplano ng rescue mission.
