Abra is launching the AHFF 2019 with the Department of Education, Schools Division Abra and Sine Abreño in partnership with the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the Philippine Information Agency. It is part of the celebration of the centennial of Philippine cinema.
"For the first time in Abra Province' history, I am extremely delighted to announce the call for entries for the Abrenian Heritage Film Festival 2019," AHFF festival director and Sine Abreño founder Dexter Macaraeg stated. "In celebration of the centennial of Philippine cinema and as the founder of Sine Abreño, which is registered at DTI Abra, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) has conducted recently a three-day FDCP FILM SCHOOL Faculty Symposium at DepEd Bangued, Abra attended by more than a hundred teachers who were interested in topics namely Understanding Film through Education, Creating Film Synergy in the Student Body and Basic Tools: A Crash Course of Filmmaking for Educators."
"Through my efforts as FDCP Film Ambassador, I have conducted film lectures and workshops at DepEd Bangued, ASIST Lagangilang, ASIST Bangued, DWCB, Holy Spirit Academy of Bangued, St. Mary's High School in Pidigan, to Tayum and Lagangilang; to Burgos, Ilocos Sur and Baguio City," Macaraeg continued. "I hope that with the film festival, students and teachers in Abra Province will see their stories on the big screen."
"Lastly, I am very grateful to the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Chair & CEO Liza Diño-Seguerra, DepEd Abra Superintendent Dr. Amador D. Among the prizes for the AHFF 2019 winners is the Gawad Sine Abreño Festival Trophy. Made of wire and wood, the trophy is inspired by the iconic camera bamboo by National Artist Kidlat Tahimik and designed by Lito "Barot Man" Malaggay, a native of Abra who is now based in Baguio City, Philippines.
