Boxing Olympian Hergie Bacyadan has been celebrated by her Igorot tribe for her outstanding achievements, which have brought immense pride to the Philippines, her family, and the people of Kalinga. This recognition highlights not only her athletic prowess but also her role as a symbol of inspiration for many.

"Salamat sa napakainit na pag-salubong mga katribo Taloctoc Tanudan Kalinga," Bacyadan expressed gratefully, acknowledging the warm reception from her community.

A Symbol of Pride and Representation

Accompanied by her wife, Lady Dito, Bacyadan proudly represents the LGBTQ community. Her journey serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for both her local community and supporters worldwide.

In recognition of her accomplishments, Bacyadan received PHP 1 million from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Additionally, she was awarded PHP 150,000 worth of items from a sports apparel company, reflecting the broad support she has garnered from various corporate donors.

Reflecting on her journey, Bacyadan shared,

"Naalala ko dati, nagtiyaga lang ako sa sirang sapatos pang training ko, tinatahi ko pa mga butas butas ng mga pang training ko. Iba talaga kapag si Lord nag-ikot ng mundo mo."

Celebrating a Hometown Hero

On Sunday, the provincial government of Kalinga will honor Bacyadan with a hero's parade, celebrating her as the first Kalinga native to join the Philippine Olympic team. This event will recognize her achievements and contributions to the sport and her community.

Grace K. Flores from the provincial office has coordinated a motorcade to commemorate the occasion. The motorcade will commence at 8 a.m. from McDonald's Tabuk City and will pass through several landmarks in Tabuk City, including the Rotunda, St. William's Academy, White Carabao Marker, St. Tonis College Inc., Annex-Bulanao Central School, Rotary Marker, Block 3 Police Station, and Southern Tabuk Integrated School. It will conclude at the Kalinga Sports Center.

The celebration will include a short program and an awarding ceremony. Bacyadan will receive a Special Recognition and a PHP 500,000 cash incentive from the Office of the Provincial Governor, as sanctioned by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance. This award acknowledges her dedication, hard work, and the honor she has brought to Kalinga.
