Engineer Emily Joyce Ekwey dela Cruz, a proud Igorot woman, is among the top passers of the August 2021 Mining Engineer Licensure Examination held last August 9-11 in various cities in the country.

Engr. Dela Cruz earned the 8th spot after garnering a rating of 87.05% among the 206 successful examinees.

Emily Joyce is the daughter of Charlito Angadol dela Cruz, a government employee from Nambaran, Tabuk City, Kalinga, and Muriel Ekwey dela Cruz, a native of Benguet and Mountain Province who is presently working as a nurse in Sweden.

Young Emily grew up in Tabuk and spent a couple of her elementary years at Bulanao Central School. She finished her bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering at the University of the Philippines in Diliman in July 2020.

Ms. Dela Cruz said while she is happy with her achievement, it is bittersweet as she had to overcome the loss of her grandmother who passed away on the second day of the 3-day examination and her grandfather who also passed away last January 2021.

"It is very sad for me really that my celebration cannot be complete. How I wish they were still here to witness this and that they are still with us in celebrating this achievement," Ms. dela Cruz said in an interview.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) announced that 206 out of 274 passed the Mining Engineer Licensure Examination given by the Board of Mining Engineering in Baguio, Cebu, Cotabato, and Legazpi this August 2021.
